In the Birmingham Chapter, it means tee times available at discounted rates for playing with other EWGA members.
As League Chair, I have heard that the term “League Play” may have some members confused and/or even a little scared. Since what we have is just pre-organized tee times for the members’ convenience without a formal contest, the events are not very well named. In some chapters League Play may represent some form of regularly scheduled competitive play, but not for us.
I have reserved premium tee times for the entire season at various courses and negotiated special rates at each course. These courses include Robert Trent Jones Valley and Ridge, Eagle Point, Timberline, Highland, Limestone, Horse Creek, Farmlinks and Ballantrae. We have Saturday morning tee times and Sunday morning and/or afternoon tee times that rotate between each of these courses scheduled through October.
There is also a long standing Tuesday Night League at Eagle Point. There is that word again. Don’t let it scare you off. In the past, there has been as many as 16 ladies show up for this event on a weekly basis. The tee times are flexible and the Course helps get everyone started. If you can make a 4:30 tee time at Eagle Point, there are several regular attendees that would love to have you come out and join them.
Any member is welcome to email me each week to let me know that they are interested in playing at the scheduled tee times. It is first come, first serve, so the earlier you contact me, the more likely you will be included. I will loosely organize the pairings for the event, so you will have someone to play with that is similar to your skill level or able to help you if you need some guidance.
If you have not checked out our website, then please do. The EWGA Birmingham Home Page lists upcoming golf and social events. Please look at the League Play Page, where you will find the rates of all the courses that we play. I have worked hard to get some of these rates as low as possible promoting that we will have eager EWGA players at each event. I hope this message encourages you to contact me so that you can start playing at the “League Play” tee times.
At this time, I do not have tee times set up specifically for beginners. As you probably realize, it is not easy to get started playing on a full 18 hole course on a Saturday or Sunday when you are having trouble even making contact with the ball. We have all been there. If there are a few ladies interested in playing the Short Course at RTJ, for instance, I could set up tee times for you to play together. The Short Course is a 18 hole par three course at Robert Trent Jones, Oxmoor Valley, that costs about $25.00 and takes about 3 hours to play. We might also be able to attract a couple of better players to mentor you by playing with you occasionally. Please contact me if you fall into this category and need some special tee times set up for you.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Angela Nash
