Angela Nash
Angela Nash is an ACE sponsor and the League Play Chairperson for the Birmingham EWGA Chapter. She has been a member since 2006 and a golfer since 1998. Angela first played golf at the AIA (American Institute of Architects) annual golf tournament, that she now chairs every year. Her foursome came in last, which her competitive spirit turned into a challenge. Angela declared "that was it. I decided that I was going to learn to play."
Angela played several years with mostly male golf buddies, but one day she was approached by a group of ladies who were EWGA members. It took her a few years to join EWGA, but Barbara Shaw finally signed Angela up. "I decided that I needed a broader group of people to play with and that I was working too hard to get golfing opportunities lined up."
Neil Thompson is Angela's current instructor and she feels "he has taken me a long way towards becoming a better player." She also watches the golf channel and the pros playing on television. "I find it inspirational to watch such talented players and I pay attention to how they approach each hole and how they continually rise to do the impossible in a clutch."
Angela is the President and founder of FORMWORKS Architects. It was established in 1994, and is a small architectural design firm that does commercial and custom residential work. She works with her husband, Gary, who specializes in restaurant design and residential work. Angela handles most of the corporate jobs for customers like Alabama Power, United Way, Pathways, Fellowship House and facilities like the Bradford Health Services in Warrior.
Gary and Angela have generously provided free services for non-profit organizations such as Habitat, Outreach and the Bethel Church in the Bessemer, Ensley and Woodlawn area. They also offer their services for free or reduced rates for various projects like playground facilities for the underprivileged, as well as the Southern Museum of Flight.
Angela was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the fourth of six children. Her family moved to Birmingham when she was eight years old, where she graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1977. She attended Auburn for two years, then graduated from the University of Houston in 1984.
Our chapter appreciates Angela's sponsorship and her efforts as League Play Chair. Thanks to Barbara for bringing Angela into our chapter and we hope she will be a long-time member. Angela says that "EWGA has given me access to events which have given me extra incentive to improve my game. Atlanta Challenge is my favorite EWGA event. I like the team effort and the format of the event."
It's easy to meet Angela, if you haven't already, since she attends most of our golf events. Thanks, Angela, and we'll see you on the course!
