Birmingham Chapter Clinics
The EWGA Birmingham golf clinics for 2008 will be instructed by: Neil Thompson, PGA Teaching Professional. We have clinics for the beginning, intermediate and advanced golfer. We will also have a few dinner clinics, which you won't want to miss!!!

Beginner Clinics

Beginner Clinic:
6 week course conducted at the Hoover Recreation Center. This class teaches you the proper way to hold a club and develop a basic swing. You will also learn some basic golf rules, etiquette, and terminology.

Cost is $150 for 6 lessons - each lesson is 1.5 hours.
These classes are taught on an on-going basis, contact Neil Thompson at pgarproneil@bellsouth.net for information about when the next series will begin.

Intermediate & Advanced Clinics

Intermediate Clinic:
This is a follow-up to the beginner clinic or perfect for someone reintroducing themselves to the game or the novice golfer. The lessons will be taught over a six week period. We will meet three times individually for private one-on-one lessons and then collectively for the other three weeks alternating the two. During the group lessons we will cover the short game and play some holes, while the individual lessons will focus on developing your swing techniques.

Cost: $240 for six weeks (if individual lessons are 1 hour)
         $180 for six weeks (if individual lessons are 1/2 hour)

The classes are due to start the first week in April (max 6 persons). Group lessons 1.5 hours


Short Shots:
A six week class designed to get you up and down from anywhere!
Week 1 - putting
Week 2 - chipping
Week 3 - pitching
Week 4 - lob shot (high pitch)
Week 5 - sand play (bunker)
Week 6 - putting revisited

Cost: $165 for six lessons or $30 each time - each lesson 1.5 hours
The classes will start in July ( max 8 people )


Trouble Shots:
We all face these shots from time to time but do we really know how to tackle them? Find out the best way to play from those awkward spots.

Week 1 - uneven lies: ball on an upslope and downslope, hardpan and divots.
Week 2 - awkward stances: ball below and above feet, on the edge of a bunker, etc...
Week 3 - long bunker shots
Week 4 - rough and trees (how to escape from)

Cost: $120 for all four sessions or $35 each. Each lesson lasts 1.5 hours.
Classes will start in September


Nine Hole Playing Lesson:
3 EWGA members can schedule a time to play nine holes of golf with Neil Thompson. Neil will give you instruction as you play the course.

Cost: $50 plus greens fee for each person.
This is a standing invitation to all EWGA members - just get a threesome together and call Neil to schedule a time and date. Call Neil at 283-0871.


Advanced Players:
Intended for players with a handicap of 24 or less.
This class will be limited to a maximum of 9 participants.

Each week, Neil will play nine holes, ( 3 holes with each threesome )... and offer course tips to improve scores. The tips will range from course management, to shot selection, to short game techniques.

Cost is $120
Class will meet 4 times, every other week - starting in May

Eagle Point Clinics

Eagle Point clinics are taught by Brian Speakman. These classes are open to the general public but are for woman only.

Women’s Clinics - $20 per person, limited to 6 participants - August 27 at 9am

Dinner Clinics

Dinner clinics have been very popular - a social gathering with food, drinks, lots of laughs, and educational at the same time.

Wednesday September 17th

This is absolutely the best way to learn more about basic rules and etiquette. No golf clubs, just walking the course with a Pro, asking questions and getting answers. Each participant will receive a copy of “Rules Made Simple” published by the USGA. Plan to attend on Wednesday, September 17th, 6:00 pm, Eagle Point Golf Club. After our walk and talk we will have dinner in the Point Room at Eagle Point.
The cost will be $15.00 per person and there will be a cash bar available.
