LPGA-USGA Girls Golf provides an opportunity for girls, ages 7-17, to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships, and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment, preparing them for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game. The organization was founded in 1989 with a pilot program in Phoenix, Arizona. There are now over 250 sites across the country including seven in Alabama, with over 8000 girls participating. LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Birmingham was founded in 1997. In partnership with the Ladies Birmingham Golf Association, Lady Legacy Scholarship Foundation and Executive Women’s Golf Association, it is a two-part program incorporating Instruction and Competition.
Lead instructor for the 2013 program is Neil Thompson, Director of Instruction, RTJ Golf Trail Academy of Golf. There will be 13 clinics on Monday afternoons beginning March 25 and ending June 24, held at the Oxmoor Valley Academy of Golf. There will be two clinics each afternoon, 5:00-6:00 for advanced girls, and 6:00-7:00 for beginning and intermediate level players, or come to the clinic that best fits your schedule. The curriculum will provide instruction in the basic elements of the game, including etiquette, course management and rules.
Under the direction of the Ladies Birmingham Golf Association, there will be five competitive tournaments among players of similar ability beginning after school is out and concluding with the LBGA Girls Golf Championship and awards luncheon on July 9 at Eagle Point Golf Club.
Program fee for the 2013 program is only $85 per girl. This fee covers all events for the entire season.
The 2013 Girls Golf Season Kickoff will be held at the RTJ Oxmoor Valley Clubhouse on Sunday, March 24, beginning at 2:30. There will be an introduction to the 2013 Girls Golf program, followed by a few words from our Girls Golf Champion of the last two years, Hannah McCracken, and then a reception. Club fitting will be done for girls who need clubs or have a question concerning the length of their clubs; clubs will also be available for purchase at a discounted price. All girls interested in golf and their parents are invited to attend.
