2012 LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Birmingham
LPGA-USGA Girls Golf provides an opportunity for girls, ages 7-17, to learn to play golf, build lasting friendships, and experience competition in a fun, supportive environment, preparing them for a lifetime of enjoyment with the game. The organization was founded in 1989 with a pilot program in Phoenix, Arizona. There are now over 232 sites across the country with over 7600 girls participating.
LPGA-USGA Girls Golf of Birmingham was founded in 1997. In partnership with the Ladies Birmingham Golf Association, Lady Legacy Scholarship Foundation and Executive Women’s Golf Association, it is a two-part program incorporating Instruction and Competition.
Lead instructor for the 2012 program is Neil Thompson, Director of Instruction, Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Academy of Golf. There will be approximately 13 clinics on Monday afternoons beginning March 26 through June 25, held at the Oxmoor Valley Academy of Golf. There will be two clinics each afternoon, 5:00-6:00 for advanced girls, and 6:00-7:00 for beginning and intermediate level players, or come to the clinic that best fits your schedule. The curriculum will provide instruction in the basic elements of the game, including etiquette, course management and rules. New for 2012, one clinic per afternoon will be held on Thursday afternoons in Tuscaloosa at North River Yacht Club. The lead instructor there will be Erin Wise, Head Golf Professional at North River golf course.
Under the direction of the Ladies Birmingham Golf Association, there will be competitive tournaments among players of similar ability beginning May 31 at Castle Pines Country Club and concluding with the LBGA Girls Golf Championship and awards luncheon on July 12 at Altadena Valley Country Club.
Program fee for the 2012 program is only $85 per girl. This fee covers all events for the entire season.
The 2012 Girls Golf Season Kickoff will be held at the RTJ Oxmoor Valley Clubhouse on Sunday, March 25, beginning at 2:30. There will be an introduction to the 2012 Girls Golf program, followed by a few words from our lead instructor, Neil Thompson, and then a reception. Club fitting will be done for girls who need clubs, or have a question concerning the fit of your clubs; clubs will also be available for purchase at a discounted price.
